After the great war raged, the world is beset total destruction. Everywhere there is only rubble former buildings and humans are forced to go back to the beginning of civilization to rebuild their civilization has destroyed itself of this. One of the few people who survived the war is Eli (Denzel Washington). For thirty years Eli walked across the desert was once a magnificent city that was devastated. Eli is only one purpose, he must walk to the West to find a place that will become a new beginning for human civilization. This trip also bring Eli with a man named Carnegie (Gary Oldman), the ruler of a town in the middle of the desert. Carnegie knew that Eli brought a book that is very valuable. Whoever becomes the owner of this book so he can rule the world. At the time of destruction of the world thirty years earlier, the entire Bible in the world has been destroyed and Eli are the only people who still have the Bible. God told Eli to carry this Bible to where civilization will be raised again.

Eli has sworn to protect this last Bible while Carnegie was determined to seize it from the hands of Eli. The situation became even worse when the daughter of Carnegie, who named Solara (Mila Kunis) instead hooked on Eli. Ideas offered by two directors, Albert Hughes and Allen Hughes, this is not a new idea. In the early 1980s and then there was a movie called MAD MAX 2 also carries a more or less the same background, although not exactly the same.
